Southern highbush blueberries don’t like cold weather. They thrive in a Mediterranean climate and can grow in warmer climates up to USDA hardiness zone 10. They require fewer chill hours (typically 200-800 hours). These bushes produce fruit a big earlier than their Northern counterparts.
The berries are typically medium-sized, light blue to blue-black, and covered with a whitish bloom (a waxy coating). They have a sweet and often slightly tart flavor.
