Taggiasca Olive Tree

Taggiasca Olive Tree

As the principle variety in Liguria, on Italy’s Mediterranean coast bordering France, Taggiasca Olive Tree offers an oil which is both fruity and floral when picked green, and sweetly perfumed when harvested ripe. The Italians would only pick it green to get the pizzica (sharp after-bite), but French tastes demand a later harvest for a light and fragrant oil. The fruit is small, but offers a high oil content at 23-26%. Trees are vigorous growers offering high and consistent production. This will be a medium-sized tree (20 feet) with a beautiful open crown offering lush, weeping branches. This is the tree that will create the feeling of sanctuary as one walks through the canopy of a traditionally spaced orchard and when grown as a container as a house plant. Taggiasca is self-fruiting and resistant to pests and disease. Adaptable to both coastal areas and inland areas with some elevation. Zones 8-11.
