Red Clapp’s Favorite Pear Tree is a red bud sport of Clapp’s Favorite. Same qualities as Clapps’ Favorite but with a red skin. Clapp’s Favorite Pear Tree is one of the best for fresh eating, featuring large fruits with gorgeous red skin, a very fine texture, and severe juiciness. Originally from Massachusetts, and discovered in the 1800’s this pear has been a favorite for centuries.

Latin Name: Pyrus communis
Site and Soil: European Pears like full to 1/2 day sun and well-drained soil.
Rootstock Description: OHXF 97 – A clonal rootstock of ‘Old Home’ x ‘Farmingdale’, this rootstock is resistant to pear decline and fire blight. It is a superior rootstock for vigorous pear trees. Hardy and resilient to cold. It provides good anchoring and yield efficiency. It is best planted 8-12′ between trees within a row.
Pollination Requirements: Red Clapp’s Favorite Pear Tree needs another variety nearby for cross-pollination. Our Asian Pear varieties can also be used as pollinators.
