A very popular table olive in Spain, Empeltre Olive Tree produces deep black olives. Fruit delicious when brined or served in oil or sherry. This is a rather rustic variety which performs well in a great number of microclimates. So far showing promise for superior frost tolerance.

Latin Name: Olea europaea
Site and Soil: Olives like a warm, protected location with 1/2 day to full sun and well drained soil.
Pollination Requirements: Requires another olive nearby for cross-pollination. Olives utilize wind pollination and should be planted no more than 20 ft. apart.
Hardiness: Hardy to at least 10° F.
Bearing Age: 1-2 years after planting
Size at Maturity: 10-20 ft. in height but smaller with pruning
