Barcelona Filbert Tree is the principal hazelnut variety grown in the Pacific Northwest, accounting for more than 60% of the acreage in Oregon. It is used in both the kernel market and the in-shell market, which favors its round shape and superior flavor.
Latin Name:Â Corylus avellana
Site and Soil:Â Filberts like 1/2 day to full sun and well-drained soil.
Rootstock Description:
Pollination Requirements: Plant with another hazelnut tree for cross pollination.
Hardiness: Filbert trees are hardy to minus 25º F. Flowers are hardy to approx. minus 15F.
