Rootstock Table

M7 (EMLA 7)AppleSemi-dwarf 12-17’M7 Apple Rootstock grows to 65% of standard height, but can be kept smaller with summer pruning. Trees are well anchored, widely adapted, and winter hardy. Resistant to fireblight, powdery mildew, and root collar rot. Can be prone to suckering.
M27 (EMLA 27)AppleSuper dwarfing 4-6’trees will max out at 6′. Best for container grown apples.
M26 (EMLA 26)AppleDwarf 8-12’Trees on M26 Apple Rootstock grows 8-12 feet tall, is very winter hardy, adapted to most soils, and well anchored though may need staking on windy sites. Extremely vigorous for a dwarfing rootstock, trees on M26 also begin bearing early and produce few suckers.
M106 (EMLA 106)AppleSemi-Dwarf 10′-15′ MM.106 EMLA is a semi-dwarf rootstock, producing a tree about 60% the size of seedling. It is quite precocious and productive and usually does not need tree support. A good choice for home gardens with well-drained soils and space for semi-dwarf trees,
M111 (EMLA 111)AppleSemi-dwarf 15′-25’M-111 Apple Rootstock is one of the most vigorous and well-adapted of apple rootstocks, M-111 is a semi-standard tree reaching 80% of standard tree’s height, or 15-25 ft. tall but can easily be kept at a manageable height with summer pruning. Tolerates, wet, dry, or poor soils and induces bearing at a young age. Well anchored and deep rooted.
Bud 9AppleDwarf 8-10’trees will be dwarfed 30-40%. Very cold hardy. Resistant to crown rot and fireblight
AntonovkaAppleSemi-dwarf25-35’exceptionally hardy, down to minus 50 degrees Farenheit! Antonovka is suckerless and produces a full sized tree, growing 25 to 35 feet. Drought tolerant, adapted to many soil types.
MazzardCherrySemi-dwarf15-20’Good choice for wet and heavy soils. Slightly more vigorous than Mahalaeb, especially in poor soils
MahalebCherry90% of StandardPerforms in deep soils with good drainage. This rootstock is somewhat dwarfing, cold hardy and precocious. Deep rooted. Not recommended for heavy soils or areas with high water tables.

Marianna 2624 PrunusPlum Semi-dwarf12-17’Vigorous and well adapted to many different soil types. Can be shallow rooted the first couple years and susceptible to leaning until established so staking may be necessary. Somewhat prone to suckering. Tolerates wet soils and does very well in the PNW.
