A very nice medium growing rock rose with grey-green crinkled foliage and the intoxicating scent of ladanifer oil when the sun hits its leaves. Hairy Rock Rose has large, bright pink flowers cover the bush in spring and though they only last a day, they are in such profusion as to cause a constant floral show for weeks on end! It is native to the central and eastern Mediterranean Basin. Extremely drought tolerant and easy to grow in full sun with well draining soil. Rock Rose flowers attract pollinators, particularly bees, providing an important nectar source. After fires, Rock Rose can resprout and help stabilize soils, contributing to the ecological recovery process. Though short-lived, it often self-sows in favorable conditions. The leave of this plant make a fine tea substitute, rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, providing a mild, aromatic flavor.
