Vandenberg Ceanothus

Vandenberg Ceanothus is very similar to Dark Star Ceanothus with its dark green crinkled leaves and beautiful fragrant blue flowers in late spring, but  much more compact than Dark Star, growing 3-5 feet tall by 4-6 feet wide. It makes an excellent evergreen shrub or can be planted in mass for a beautiful drought tolerant hedge. The bees will go crazy for the blue blossoms! Requires no summer water once it is established.

A very useful and beautiful genus of shrubs native to the West Coast, mostly in the California and Southern Oregon Coast Range, Ceanothus boast evergreen foliage, gorgeous purple to blue, sometimes white, flowers and can tolerate the worst soil conditions so long as they are well draining. As nitrogen fixing shrubs they also fix nitrogen in the soil and are excellent companion plants for other woody plants.
