Opal European Plum
An old European plum that makes an excellent fresh eating dessert plum. Fruits have a beautiful reddish purple skin with bright yellow flesh that easily separates from the pit. Often compared to the gage plums for their excellent flavor, Opal plums are one of our favorites for fresh eating.

Site and Soil: Plums like 1/2 day to full sun and well-drained soil.
Rootstock Description: A semi-dwarf rootstock for Plums and other stone fruits, Marianna produces trees 12’-15’ in height or less.
Pollination Requirements: Opal plums are self-fertile

Pests & Diseases: Our plums are not bothered by pests. Bacterial Canker can occasionally damage trunks or branches. Symptoms of this disease are exudations of amber-colored sap. Spraying lime-sulfur or copper in the fall and early spring can help control Bacterial Canker. This tree can be susceptible to the fungal diseases brown rot & black knot. Early mid bloom-time.
