Sangiovese Grape Vine

Sangiovese is beloved by all around the world, and goes by many regional names. Originating in Tuscany, you may know this grape by the names Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, or Vino Nobile. Sangiovese grows best in hot, dry climates so you won’t find much of it in our backyard in Northern Oregon, but it is plentiful in Eastern Washington wine regions. Wine from Sangiovese can be found in many different styles – from bold and tannic with flavors of tobacco and balsamic, to fresher and lighter styles with floral aromatics and a ruby cherry palate.

While there are many wonderfully complex expressions of this grape, it is foremost known for making affordable table wines served in a rotund, wicker-bound glass bottle. You may even have one of these at home, housing a melted candle on your mantle!
