Rosmarinus x mendizabalii
Rosmarinus x mendizabalii is a naturally occurring Spanish hybrid of two Rosmary species, the commonly seen culinary rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) and the Spanish native Salvia granatensis, (formerly Rosmarinus tomentosus). The resulting hybrid has the stunning silvery white velvety foliage of Salvia granatensis but is easier in cultivation due to the Salvia rosmarinus blood. We haven’t tried using this one yet in a culinary setting but we are sure smitten by it in the dry garden! Provide full sun and good drainage, and possibly a touch of lime due to Salvia granatensis’s proclivity for limestone cliffs.
