Quercus greggii La Siberica strain
A fantastic and unique oak from a Sean Hogan seed collection at high elevation in Mexico, this oak has been fairly widely planted around Portland, though we could still use a few thousand more if it were up to us, and has proven itself easily cold hardy here and likely hardy in slightly colder climates. Like many high elevation Southwest and Mexican species, this oak loves our climate and where it grows as as smaller shrubby oak in its native habitat, it forms a small tree form in our richer soils. Lovely wooly texture on the leaves, this is an evergreen oak but will drop its leaves for a short time in April before flushing out new ones.
