M27 Apple Rootstock (EMLA 27)
M27 is a super dwarfing apple rootstock with trees growing to no more than 6-8 feet in height. Perfect fo the home gardener who doesn’t have a lot of space to spare or wants to grow many different apple varieties in a small space. Also M27 Apple Rootstock is one of, if not the best rootstocks for container grown apples. Trees in ground will require staking and extra watering as all truly dwarfing rootstocks do. Somewhat susceptible to fire blight.
Choosing the correct rootstock can be the difference between a tree thriving or dying on your site. Rootstocks not only determine the overall size, vigor, and precociousness of a tree but also what soil types it can grow in, its drought tolerance and how well anchored your tree will be.
Now you can propagate your own fruit trees for very low costs or preserve rare and heirloom varieties by grafting them onto to resilient rootstocks. Be sure to check compatibility of your desired scion with your choice of rootstock.
