At the Oregon Garden in Silverton, One Green World maintains a showcase “edible landscape,” completely composed with edible plants from our catalog. Be sure to come and see many mature specimens of our fruiting trees and shrubs in their element.
Better yet, you can taste several different varieties to help decide if you might want one in your own garden. Summertime berries and flowers have started to fade, but larger autumn fruits are just coming into prime time! Apples, ‘Negronne’Figs, Akebia and Hardy Kiwis are all ripe and ready. In the berry department, Goji berries, Seaberries, Chilean Wintergreen, and Everbearing Strawberries are all offering up their sweetest fruits.
And its time to keep an eye on the unripe, but swelling Pawpaws, Medlars and Quince. It’s even a joy to see how this garden feeds other creatures: check out the unharvested Artichokes, with happy honeybees reveling in their glorious purple blooms.
The Town Gardener, Ethan Rainwater, has been reworking and caring for the edible landscape in Silverton since 2012. Under his supervision, the garden has been totally revamped, and is starting to really thrive. The Town Gardener is a full service landscape design/installation business based in Eugene.
