Wild Ginger
An excellent native woodland ground cover that is easy to grow and creates a beautiful carpet of heart shaped leaves in the understory. The roots have a flavor reminiscent of ginger and it has been used as a ginger substitute. Interesting maroon flowers are usually hidden from sight but are quite beautiful.

Site and Soil: Partial to full shade and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Plants are drought resistant once they are established.
