Red Veined Sorrel
Sorrel is one of the most versatile perennial greens in temperate climates. A close relative of the wild sorrel growing in the understory of many West Coast forests, this particular Sorrel has become a popular culinary herb. The beautiful red veins in the center of its leaves look similar to red chard. Because it is perennial, red veined sorrel can be planted in flower borders or underneath young fruit trees. Early spring greens are very tender and can be eaten fresh. The tougher, late season greens have a wonderful lemony zest.
