Indigo Gem Honeyberry

Indigo Gem Honeyberry is a variety selected by the University of Saskatchewan.  Indigo Gem Honeyberry is a fast growing, high yielding berry that is well suited for commercial production. Pale Yellow flowers in spring are followed by great tasting blueberry-like fruit that ripens mid-June. Also known as Honeyberries or Blue Honeysuckle, Canadian Haskap are superior to any other Honeyberries with sweeter, wild Blueberry flavor and larger, fleshier fruit not unlike oversize Blueberries.

Site and Soil: full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil.
Pollination Requirements: Two varieties with similar bloom time are needed for cross-pollination.
Hardiness: hardy to – 35° F.
Bearing Age: 1-2 years after planting.
Size at Maturity: 3-4 ft. in height

Ripening Time: May-June
Yield: 5-10 lbs.
Pests & Diseases:  To deter birds, use mylar flash tape or cover plants with netting. Powdery mildew is common fungal disease that affects Honeyberry plants, but doesn’t cause significant damage.
