Italian Purple Allium sativum

Large bulbs with numerous cloves wrapped in white skin with purple stripes. Vigorous widely adapted plants are relatively heat tolerant, store well, and are good for braiding. This softneck is widely grown in the the “Garlic Capital” of GIlroy, CA. Ships mid-January – April for spring; September-October for fall. Spring shipments based on grow Zone. May be delayed by weather conditions. Contiguous US only

Garlic will grow in nearly any loamy well drained soil and full sun. Ideal pH is in the 6.5 – 7.0 range. Softneck varieties are more widely adapted and heat tolerant, are good for braiding, and store up to 10 months. Hardneck varieties are generally more winter hardy if planted early to allow for good root growth before the soil freezes. Hardnecks produce an edible ‘scape’ or flower stalk, have large, easy-to-peel cloves, more complex flavor, and store about 6 months.
