One of our favorite backdoor greens that work in just about every meal! Garlic Chives should be grown outside of everybody’s kitchen door, on their balcony, or anywhere you can easily snip a few to add to your dish.
The classic culinary thyme, Narrow Leaf French Thyme is the perfect herb to spice up soups, stews, and casseroles with its fresh, aromatic fragrance. The leaves on this cultivar are a beautiful and compact grey-green that will cascade gently over a rock wall or through a garden border. Provide very well-draining soil for best flavor and be sure to prune it regularly to keep it from looking leggy, and to keep your cooking fresh.
Silver Lemon Thyme is a uniquely fragrant and delicious thyme that also makes a wonderful landscape plant. Placed near the edge of a pathway or between pavers will cause the aromatic oils to fill the air anytime you brush up against them. The small round leaves have a beautiful light variegation along their outer edge and really light up a pathway, especially at night.
Grosso Lavender is one of the most popular French hybrids due to its incredible vigor, abundance of flower spikes, and sheer size of the flowers. Also known as the “fat lavender” due to its exceptionally large flower spikes, Grosso is valued for its intense fragrance and is especially valuable in making essential oils, soaps and lotions.
A rare and especially unique citrus from Japan, Sanbokan is a difficult one to classify. It peels like a mandarin, has skin like a grapefruit but with a pronounced nipple, and the flavor is certainly sour and bitter but also richly sweet.
Ana Luisa Lavender is unique for it’s silver gray foliage that appears nearly white at times! Fragrant bluish purple flowers on long tapered spikes in summer stand out in great contrast to the bright foliage.
One of our favorite spillers for walls or terraces, Trailing Irene Rosemary grows only 6 inches or so high but spreads up to 6 feet! Makes a lovely evergreen spiller over a wall or rock, or can be grown as a ground cover under your new fruit tree. Pairs especially well with figs and olives and suppresses any weeds that might try to pop up. Flowers are a beautiful light blue and cover the plant in spring.
