A highly prized and attractive shrub or small tree growing 10-15 ft. in height, Japanese Pepper bears abundant, aromatic, small red fruits accented by handsome, dark green, 3-6” long leaves with numerous oval leaflets. Both the dried fruit hulls and small black seeds are used as a spice for flavoring rice and other dishes. The peppery-tasting leaves are also used in Japanese cuisine.
